Are you superstitious?
Eyes Open, Minds Closed: A Powerful Stand Against Blind Superstition
Even though humanity has reached the Moon and sent missions to Mars, discovered countless planets and satellites, and advanced in science and technology, it is unfortunate that many highly educated peopleโscientists, doctors, and engineersโcan still behave blindly when it comes to superstition.
I do not know much about other countries because I have never traveled abroad, and honestly I am not sure if I will ever get that opportunity in my life due to my difficult financial situation. However, in the country where I live, superstition is shockingly widespread in everyday behavior.
People consider a simple sneeze as a bad omen. There are countless so-called spiritual leaders and fake godmen misleading people. This happens largely because people here have deep faith in God, but sometimes that faith is exploited in the worst possible ways.
Many individuals bow down in temples, perform rituals, and claim divine possession. Yet the same people often fail to behave with basic humanity. Some commit crimes, exploit women, and still hide behind religion. They chant Godโs name while secretly doing terrible acts. Such hypocrisy is deeply disturbing.
People who commit sins and then claim they are doing โkarmaโ should be held accountable. Unfortunately, many escape punishment, which allows such behavior to continue.
The saddest part is that many people are educated, yet they still believe blindly without any proof or evidence. They choose to close their eyes and accept irrational beliefs.
Some examples of common superstitions include:
- Believing in black magic or ghosts without evidence.
- Calling a woman a โwitchโ or โghost.โ
- Considering it a bad omen if a cat crosses the road.
- Hanging black dolls outside houses to ward off evil.
- Tying black threads on naturally grown trees to protect them from the โevil eye.โ
- Thinking cutting nails at night brings bad luck.
- Avoiding the use of a broken mirror because of superstition.
Where is the science behind these beliefs? If someone claims these are real, they should prove them scientifically.
In 1975, during the tenure of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, constitutional amendments highlighted the fundamental duties of citizens, encouraging the development of scientific temper, critical thinking, and a rational mindset.
Before believing anything, people should investigate, verify, and examine the evidence.
For example:
- No one says โ2 + 2 = 0 is my belief.โ
- No one claims โThe Earth is round because I blindly believe it.โ
Why? Because these facts are scientifically proven with evidence.

But when there is no proof, believing blindly is called superstition.
Personally, I do not believe in such things, and I never will. To me, it feels meaningless and irrational. Some people pretend to be intelligent while intentionally misleading others. They show off fake wisdom and try to appear superior, even though their behavior proves otherwise.
Instead of spreading superstition, people should first understand humanity.
Learn how to treat others with respect, kindness, and dignity.
- Treat people with compassion.
- Do not harm anyone.
- If the person is a woman, respect her and honor her dignity.
- See every woman as someone deserving safety and respect.
Humanity should always come before blind beliefs.
Why Scientific Thinking Matters in Society
Superstition weakens society because it replaces logic with fear. A strong society is built on education, evidence, and empathy.
Developing a scientific mindset helps people:
- Think logically
- Question misinformation
- Avoid exploitation by fake spiritual leaders
- Promote equality and human dignity
When people start questioning irrational beliefs, society becomes more progressive, fair, and humane.
Final Thought
True greatness is not in rituals or blind faith.
True greatness lies in humanity, rational thinking, and respect for others.
