Why I Prefer Home-Cooked Food Over Restaurant Meals
– Dailyprompt- 1908

What is your favorite restaurant?

Discover why home-cooked food holds a special place in my heart and why Iโ€™ve never been a fan of restaurant meals. Simple, soulful, and made with loveโ€”this is my food philosophy.

โ€œCooking is like painting or writing a song. Just as there are only so many notes or colors, there are only so many flavorsโ€”it’s how you combine them that sets you apart.โ€ โ€“ Wolfgang Puck

In a world where eating out has become a lifestyle, I stand on the quieter side of the spectrumโ€”where the simmering pot in my own kitchen means more than a five-star restaurant meal.

From the very beginning, I’ve never truly liked food from hotels or restaurants. It’s not about hygiene or ambianceโ€”it’s about taste. That mass-produced, one-size-fits-all flavor never resonates with me. So naturally, I donโ€™t have a โ€œfavoriteโ€ restaurant. For me, favorite lies in my own kitchen.

โ€œFood made by your own hands carries the essence of your being.โ€

I take immense joy in preparing food my own wayโ€”choosing ingredients with intuition, building flavors step-by-step, and letting aroma guide the pace. I enjoy minimalism in cooking. A perfect tempering with just the right amount of heat, golden brown onions, crisped turmeric and chili powder, and then the vegetables gently merging into the spicesโ€”this is where my comfort lies.

Salt is added not just for taste, but when the moment feels right. A sprinkle of fresh coriander on top, and thatโ€™s it. No fancy spice mixes, no over-the-top garnishes. Just simplicity.

Even chapatisโ€”I prefer them made by my own hands, without oil. I donโ€™t enjoy oily or greasy meals. Give me a simple meal: plain dal, white rice, and a dry vegetable made with care, and my day is complete

โ€œLet your food reflect who you areโ€”pure, simple, and full of heart.โ€

Since childhood, Iโ€™ve been conditioned to home-cooked meals. The deep emotional connection to food made at home makes it difficultโ€”even impossibleโ€”for me to enjoy restaurant meals. If I ever fall sick and cannot cook, I simply skip the meal rather than opt for outside food. It may seem extreme to some, but to me, itโ€™s non-negotiable.

โ€œFood is not just fuel, itโ€™s information. It talks to your DNA and tells it what to do.โ€ โ€“ Dr. Mark Hyman

This isn’t stubbornness. Itโ€™s just how I am. Just as some people can’t live without travel or art, I can’t live without the authenticity of my own cooking.
